Hello and a question on the hood release on an '81 Spider 2000

Hi all,

New to the forums - I bought an '81 Spider 2000 (50th anniversary) off Craigslist a couple months back and while it's brilliant fun, I'm sure I'll have a host of troubleshooting questions for you in short time.

The first Q I have - where's the hood release located? I had been opening the hood without issue but went to change the spark plugs the other day and it wouldn't budge, almost as if it had latched on to something. I looked around the dash for a button/lever/something, but couldn't find anything. If a release isn't possible, do you have any suggestions on how to crack the hood open otherwise?

The only thing I have noticed about it that I would consider unusual is that it looks as if the previous owner installed a plastic rope to keep the hood in place while it's open.

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

There's mention in the workshop manual of an emergency release cable for the bonnet (hood). I haven't worked on a Spider for over 30 years so don't remember exactly where it is..
