Right,

I installed my kenwood headunit, but say when im driving for a while, say about 45 mins the headunit gets extremly hot and then the sound from the speakers goes all...distorted. And like when i turn it off, and then leave it for 10 mins and turn it back on its fine again, and then the sound goes all ****ed up again...

When i take off the faceplate, the unit is roastin. So what you think it could be wiring problems?

I wired up 2 back speakers to it, straight into the head unit, so i dont know if thats what the problem is.

Help, please....lol!

My head unit is always hot!

I've actually had it over heat twice in its life because I was parked up with the engine running and the stereo up really loud entertaining the masses!

Sound slike it could be afault either with the internal amp...or the wiring to your speakers! :?

see it works fine for around 30 mins, when i have it up loud. and then it goes all distorted the sound, i can hear it but it goes really low etc.

you think it could be my head unit wired up wrong? I didnt change any wires, i kept the ignition wire the same...etc, i dont really know much about ice.

any suggestions on what i should do? get a new cd player yeh...?

i will check the ratings tomorrow but i got 2 new 17cm sony speakers for the front of the punto. how wuld a go about checkin the earth wire?

cheers...

Update : Okay i was heading back from the gurlfriends today, she lives in fife..about an hour away..so cd player essential.

Well, driving home, and about half an hour into the journey the player sound goes wonkey.

Well i take out the cd, and honestly this things on fire, i mean roasting hot. So is stuck in another cd right away and it played fine. So you all think my cd players finshed....?

Time for a new one? Or just wiring problems?

my player does that to when i'm showing off my system but if u turn the music down that might be your problem

I had it up full, all the time in my old punto and it never overheated.

The guy in overdrive said it may be ventilation problems, due to the heat of the unit?

What you think, i should sell it and get a decent one?

could be the problem as there isnt alot of room for the mk2 stereo, if you like your head unit then look at a way of venting it maybe a wee fan from a computer or somethin, the way to check the earth is to look at the black wire on the iso connector if it looks like its connected up fine then you know thats not the problem

checked the earth mate. Its fine.....

I think its the cd player thats actually done in. My mates got a kenwood in his mk2. And there aint nutting wrong with his, like overheating etc.

My other mate, said my speakers may be drawing too much current which is making the unit overhead. Also he said, they may no be wired up correctly.

Only way of getting around this is getting a sub/amp and some 6 x 9's for the back and putting them in.

I would be happy running my speakers off of the headunit but it looks like it isnt going to happen. Dont understand why it worked fine on my mk1 punto but not on my mk2 punto

Right, ill proberlly save up some cash before christmas, and get a sub/amp installed, and run some 6x9's in the back off of the amp and then keep the 2 front speakers running off of the headunit. Would this be possible?

I wouldn't put 6x9s in the parcel shelf if you are going to run a sub and amp. The air that the sub moves will distort the sound the 6x9s create and may even damage them!

You don't need 6x9s...just decent front components and a sub/amp in the boot!

My thoughts exactely

I dont know much about Ice but that other one I showed you has a larger sub, many people i know who have 10" subs had to get another one to make up for the lack of sound you get from them.

But theres a couple of guys on the site who knew a lot about ice so they will be able to help more help than i can

Yeh iv still got that one u showed me bookmarked. I'll proberlly get it. But just wanna know opinions on this one first...

Lol how much you people think motor world want for wiring up a sub and amp.

50 quid, lol.... Well, i'll be doing it myself then.
