i'm still thinking of replacing the broken CAT with a straight thro' pipe. any guesses if it's likely to produce emmissions that are too high for the MOT? its a 97R HGT with 40K and Mobile1 every 4k?

Not got a hope in hell of meeting the emissions without a cat. Even the best tuned engine in the world would struggle.

Re: Re: having no CAT worth MOT gamble?

Are the de-cats under £100 for the 1.6 16v?

Re: Re: Re: having no CAT worth MOT gamble?

someone one here must use a straight through cat replacement. they'll probably still have the cat for their mot tests.
its a case of you asking nicely if you can borrow one :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: having no CAT worth MOT gamble?

thanks for the tips.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: having no CAT worth MOT gamble?

i have a straight through on my 1.8, i tried 1st test with de-cat and failed misserably! had to re-fit it for re-test.
cost £40 stainless powerflow.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: having no CAT worth MOT gamble?

£40. Is that all. My problem is this. I have a remus backbox, not a full system. Can I still have a de-cat pipe. Will Powerflow really do that?

re

if you get a decat and can get them to do the emissions test as though it was a pre 1988 or whenever it was when you didnt need a cat it should pass thouhg? just need some friendly garages. . ?

Re: re

yup 40 rips an you should have no probs with the remus, you may have to pay a little extra seen as i bought cat-back at same time but i wouldnt have thought any more than 50, got it from a place called stafford tyred [highly recommend them] great job, friendly blokes...... got the number if anyone wants it.

Re: re

LOL!!! You'd be lucky! Doing that opens the garage up to serious crap from the DVLA and not many garages are willing to risk their MOT certificate for that.

Re: re

just slip a tenner into their hands and you'll pass.

The Bravo...different day, different sh!t :)

Re: Re: re

I think Extreme in Harlow, Essex is my locan Powerflow dealer!

Re: Re: re

whats the worst the garage can say? hmmm 'no'!!!
my mate got his 93 mini motd with no cat an they just put the test machine through a 98 megane that was in the garage!!! no probs ;o]

although note! i do not advise or condone such behaviour as it makes the car non-street legal and makes your insurance become invalid no matter what the circumstances!
i only use my de- cat pipe off road!

Dodgy garages

I remember about 4 years ago when I had a motorbike, I got a producer from the cops for having a smaller number plate. So I wasnt worried until I got home and found my MOT certificare had expired by one frigging day !!!!!

I went to 9 gareages trying to find one that would MOT my bike, and backdate the form by one day, and this was first thing in the morning. I never did find one, but managed to blag my way at the police station with just a new MOT, he didnt check the start date:)

Just goes to show, some garages might bend, some wont.and I have never found one that will:(

Re: Dodgy garages

I called Xtreme and they will do my de-cat pipe for £70. Only problem is i'll lose my current cat.

This means i'll have to 'borrow' someone's cat come MOT time.

Which one of you 1.6 16v owners wants to be my best friend every July 11.

Re: Re: Re: Dodgy garages

Coz the chap said he'd need the bits on my cat that bolt on to the exhaust system.....if u get my drift!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Dodgy garages
