I noticed the handbrake warning light was not working in our 2009 Ducato 250 160mj. When I located the switch I found the 12v wire (with female spade connector) was not attached. Correcting this did not cause the warning light to work when the handbrake was activated & I found this was due to there being no electrical connection between the spade & the body of the switch when it was allowed to close. Having now sorted this, I'm left wondering why the wire had been disconnected originally - the spade connection was too firm for it to have just fallen off: was this just an oversight following some repair work or could it possibly have been a source of current drain ?

Possibly someone diagnosed the switch, but did not finish the job, you may never know.
Unlikely to be a drain as handbrake light will go off with ignition and keys out.:)
I did have an issue with an Iveco Daily where after removing ignition keys and locking vehicle, five minutes later a red light would come on the dash and if vehicle not used for several days that would flatten the battery. In that case some previous owner had retro fitted anti theft system and used a feed from the brake pedal three wire switch which took a while to find.
