Styling gull wing X

I was thinking a making my x a gullwing. maybe moving the hinges close to the top. then doing a little more things. does anyone know if this has been done?

This most certainly will not work on a targa roofed car.

Yeah no problem doing it, go to B&Q, get 4 cheap hinges and screws and small nuts and bolts (the ones that rust quickly are best) also a drill bit for glass, then just drill lots of holes in the roof and the glass and fit hinges, you wont be able to open the windows but I'm sure that wont bother you, Post a picture when its done!

If you want fancy but rice-y doors, maybe go for suicide doors, since gullwing or butterfly doors are all but impossible since the doors have no frame around the top and nothing substantial at the front edge.

thanks for the great ideas!! realy like the one with the BBQ hinges.

anyhow, you take square tubualar steel, weld it from the front pillars, to the rear roof, two across the top, under the targe pannel. while strenghining the chassis. I did forget about how the doors were, anyhow you take the window glass out, cut it down, fabricate some metal to the front and back of the door, to extend to the roof, then hinges it. Then get some of the small shocks from the inside of a sedan trunk. and attach.

If you wanted to step it up a notch you could put the BBQ hinges on the bottom of the door so it opens onto the ground and make some stairs out of the square tubular steel and weld it to the door so you could step down out of it. It will be a show stopper for sure.

Actually, if you had bottom hinged doors and left them open when driving the Exxy might fly since it now has 'wings'

Lambo style hinges on X1/9 doors would be a better style to go for . . .

BUT because of the way the existing X1/9 hinges are orientated it would NOT be an easy install . . .
