Hi,

I want to add bluetooth audio to my car. I did my research but I have a lot of doubts.

Current headset is a blaupunkt!

I see two options, adding a bt cable to the aux or a new headunit.

Option 1 - add a cable
I found some cables on ebay cable but I don't know how to assemble it, is it easy? (I can't post links)

Option 2 - new headunit
I don't mind buying a new cheap headunit but still I don't know how to assemble it, I've seen people talking about the CAN bus, also to be careful to do not connect the radio to a permanent power cable that will drain the battery.

I've also seen the term "amplifier", what is it?

:bang:

Welcome to the forum :)

I'm not too sure on adding the cable from option 1 so I'm going to skip that, my suspicion is though that it's not going to be as simple as "just plug something in".

My personal choice would be to go for an aftermarket headunit. As long as you buy an appropriate wiring 'harness' adaptor you shouldn't need to worry about the CAN issues and most harnesses come with the ability to quickly switch the appropriate wires to stop the battery from being drained. However, if you're not confident that you can do it yourself, find a headunit that you like at the right price and ask a car audio specialist to install it. Much better than draining your battery or - in the worst possible case - setting fire to you car! Don't worry about amplifiers, you only need those if you're planning to upgrade your speakers too.

There is another options though, something along these lines - [2019 New] ORIA Bluetooth FM Transmitter for Car, Wireless in-Car Radio Adapter Car Kit, Universal Car Charger with Dual USB Charging, Hands-Free Calling, Music Player Supports TF Card & USB Disk: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Simple plug and play, pretty cheap and should do everything you need it to. It basically transmits on an FM frequency, so you tune your radio into that frequency, and everything else is handled by the adaptor.

I'd also get one of those cigarette lighter socket FM transmitter because they come with USB ports which you'll probably need anyway for charging but they also have buttons to quickly skip tracks without taking your eyes off the road.

Won't cost more than £10 or 10 seconds to set up.

I already bought two, they don’t work. I
have to change the frequency every couple of kms and get a lot of white noise.

I might change the speakers too, mine are horrible sliding ..

do you recommend any headunit?

Check that your headunit is not set to 'autoseek', that is constantly trying to find the best (same channel) emiter in the area...

Have you tried buying one of these cables, they are dirt cheap and it’s worth starting there if it doesn’t work you’ve not spent loads
...
If the cable works then you buy a £10 Bluetooth receiver.

Yes, I have one of those and it works. It was the best solution I found,

What kind of bluetooth receiver can I buy?

I wouldn't mind spending 60/70 euros on a new headset. Further on I want to change the speakers also.

To round up, I've already bought an FM transmitter, it doesn't work for me.
I have an AUX in cable but I want to charge and listen to music at the same time :p
So all I have lef is bluetooth.

An adapter like this one? Is it easy to assemble?

Or a radio like this one?
Also, is it easy to assemble?

thx :slayer:

Any opinions on these radios from aliexpress?

Be aware that NOT every USB port (if it's what you mean) has charging functionnality, it all depends on what's behind it ...

Ignore the charging, what do you think about the options on my previous post?
