Rite,
ive got £500 to buy some form of estate car for me and mi m8s to go to france with in the summer.
IT needs to include:
MOT till at least july of this year
Preferable tax till the same time
relatively low mileage (below 100k)
MUST be a diesel
Be very good on fuel economy
Reliable
Cheap to Insure
I am in the West yorkshire area, but am willing to travel.
I was looking at the Volvo 240's (absolute tank) because they are so reliable and massive, but engine size is too big!
Winner gets............... Nothing, lol, apart from a big thanks!

That's a hell of a challenge - I think you should forget about any car under 100k. How expensive can we go for insurance?

Marea td weekend with some panel damage, prob pay around 250 quid with mot.

There are loads of big diesels on Autotrader for under £500, you're probably best waiting til nearer the trip before you buy so you don't need the worry about MOTs.

it is a challenge, but as said, ther is loads on auto trader, but was just wanting anyones expert advice on here!
well not much higher than a 1.8 TD tbh.
as for waiting, i could do with it now, as the second car i have at the moment is falling apart on me so could do with replcaing it before it does!

that VW is a minter, but i doubt that it will go for under £500 :(:(

vetra td estate a car designed for the motorway only. and they are all cheep as chips as 99% of them are x reps cars. btw 100k on a diesel is nothing its like a 50k petrol.

i had deasasel (sorry been watchin too much top gear, lol) 405 once and it was the 1.8td mind you but it was great for motorways etc, and it was a k-reg with 100,000 miles on it but it still had the power, and i got it for 300quid that was the last car i had before i bought my bravo

BRAVO, why settle for anything less.

re

my 306 had the classic 1.9td engine, its on 200k and still going strong!

I've seen 406 ex taxi go through car auctions with 400k on it!!

ther eis a 406 estate with blacked out windows down the road from me and look quite mart i think! lol

like Ash said a vectra (mk1 jobbie) mondeo mk1 or if your lucky a mk 2 but it will be a bit rough, escort (i had a mk 4 estate 1.4 petrol as my first car, was given it, and for what it was was a damn good car, lift off oversteer was great, did 5 mates, a boot full of kit, 3 bikes on the back and one on the roof with a sub and amp in the boot and did a run to scotland, did the job pretty damn well and didnt use too much juice either

406 aswell may be another good bet, and the older volvos can be got silly cheap!

re

ading to my above, m,y parents have a volvo 240 estate, paid 500 quid for it i think, wiht mot and tax, and it drifts really well! although it is only 4speed gearbox so not sure how well that suits motorway!

they had a 740 before and that was a good tank too! but as you say they are 2.1/2.3 engines so mayeb too muich insurance

re

you could buy two cinq's? lol weld them back to back so you have 4wheel steering for the twistys? just make sure you mate in the back steers the right way!

or i just had a better idea

Vauxhall omega diesel estate. . . bmw diesel engine i believe? so will go on and on.

rwd

get a white one everyone in uk will think yur a police car and pull over!

rated as a bit of a luxury car so maybe have cruise control etc

dont knwo what insurance is like though

thanks alot for all the replies guys, as for the van, i thought about it, but i need it to sit a minimum of 3 people (in know most vans do this) but it needs to be comfortable no crampt like in a van. i looked at the escort ones already, there was a beauty on ebay, was about to get it but someone beat me to it!
il keep looking
thanks again

I saw the perfect vehicle walking to the bus stop after work tonight, it was a Toyota people carrier with 7 seats and a glass roof. It had tons of room in it and I imagine you could pick one up on your budget. I couldn't see the name of it but I'm checking through autotrader.
