Well, it's finally that time when I can afford to chuck on some decent suspension (Eibach Prodampers and Sportline Springs, with the added benefit of an OMP strutbrace of course :D ) and I was wondering what a decent labour quote would be for fitting. Anyone able to give a ball park figure? I'm going to phone one or two garages tomorrow to get an idea, but thought I should ask those in the know to get an idea. Also, if there's anyone in the West of Scotland that can maybe give some recommendations on garages and the like, it'd be more than welcome (y)

If the quotes are too much, I've got a mate with spring compressors that'll give me a hand fitting the kit, but to be honest, I'd rather not in this weather

Still though, can't wait to get it all on, shall hopefully transform RGZ into a car that handles decidedly un-boat like :D

youd be looking at roughly 100 and anymore than that id do it myself as id have some more toys to buy with that 100 :D

hmm is a garage in the west end (on byres road) my bros works for does it pretty cheap. I recently got quote for darren to fit lowering springs, water pump and front wheel bearing for around £130, ( just an estimate he said as he do need ot see the car first, but i doubt fitting suspension kit will be expensive)

If you need i can get you the number to the place? Just say Ming (Gary's brother)gave you the details

Thanks

That'd be great, thanks (y)

I was thinking around £100 for the job, but wanted to make enquiries first to confirm things. I mean, if the weather becomes more favourable, I probably will just do it myself. Can't hurt to check things out though.

just do it yourself you know you want to :) i mean even if 3 of them stay on id say its a success :D

Defo mate think about it this way :) , if say cost 100 quid for someone else to do the job. With around £100 you can get the followung

2 tone jack - £25 quid
Axel stand - £15 quid
Rachet set + breaker bar - £50
Spring compressor - £10

That's all is needed for the job :) and + your time ;)

Indeed, that's why I'm thinking about it. My mate's got the jack and spring compressors as well as a proper ratchet set and we both have axel stands sets. Shall mull over the guide on FF a little more to work out the details. Guess I just like the thought of getting professionals to get these kind of things done.

Still need to order the bits though, waiting to see how healthy my bank balance is after all the bills come off for this month

AFAIK, suspension is one of the easier jobs you can do on a car - as long as you have the right tools. Certainly, I helped my bro do it on his Golf and his Scirocco and it's pretty simple. I'd be more worried about doing the brakes tbh, especially drums ... pain in the arse that they are

There's not a lot of issues with me doing it wrong and leaving me stranded, 20 mins walk from my work to where I live and the Fiat garage is even closer, though obviously want to avoid that situation :p

Brakes would be something I'd get a pro to do. If I had a Haynes manual or someone with expertise alongside, I'd consider it though. May well be doing that in the future sometime. Looking at upgrading both disks and pads all round at some point and maybe the hoses if I can be bothered as well :)
