Hi guys

My first time in this section, I've been found lurking in the cinq, doblo, multipla section up to now.

I'm looking for some advice on buying a coupe as im going to look at one tomorrow and as I've wanted one since they came out when I was a teenager I don't think I can put it off any longer.

It's a high mileage 2l non turbo car at 129k but the price does reflect this. The owner says there is an oil leak around the cam shaft in to the cover. Is this an issue I should be concerned about and is it an easy, cheap job to put right and can it effect anything further down in the cover like the water pump etc?

He also said the air box has a leak and it had a bit of a lumpy tick over when cold but goes when it warms up. To me that sound like the head is going but that was changed 10k ago so shouldn't be that, but are those symptoms common for a leaky air box?

It had the head and cambelt done 10k ago but he didn't know how long ago that was? Would I be right in thinking like in my old alfa 156 this should be changed every three years with the water pump?

Thanks in advance.

Have you got any money to put to the side? i would get a mechanic take a look before buying it before parting with your money. you could be buying something that might have issues further down the line.

ive just bought one a 1997 with 118k on clock non turbo but had a brand new engine 36k ago and sounds sweet.

leaky airbox would not cause the engine to be lumpy at all. could be coils or spark plugs.

how much have they got the car up for and any mot or tax?
