Hey guys, just put a geforce 6200, 256mb agp 8x in me pc, it runs games smoother but its not as good as i thought it would be, still wont run toca race driver 3 at full pelt?
Is it a crap card or am i doing something wrong?

Ah, ok, was free anyhoo, anything i can do to help it run faster, only had a geforce 4 mx440 in before so its a little step up at least, pc is a athlon xp2200+, 1280mb ddr ram,7.1 random sound card from computer fair  think thats about it

6200 is too old to expect it to do well on modern games. the 6200 was the first directX9.0c card in the nvidia range, but it only had 4 pixel pipelines (the LE only had 2!!) and 32, 64 (TC & LE) or 128bit interface. thats all stone age stuff these days. buy old games and you'll be fine.

your mx440 wasnt much worse than the 6200, the only real difference is the directX version and an extra 2 pipelines on the 6200.

How healthy is your pc? That can affect your framerate so i would:

Defrag the hard drive
Scandisk the drive
delete any unesessary files (run disk cleanup wizard, don't reformat it, that is the *****'s way out and causes more problems than you think).

that will help a bit but your pc is very old, i would consider upgrading.

I did an XP reformat the other day, didn't take long as such, plus nice to reinstall the programs I actually use. Why would it cause problems?

It helped with it being on a 30Gb partition - didn't need to affect the other 1.03Tb of HDD space :p

i had issues when i did that to my sisters pc. Turned out she had a really rare twin gpu graphics card that was only compatible with windows 98!! i couldn't get the card to work in the end.

Ah, so a one-off then :chin:

On my D partition, I have a few folders - namely 'Mobo', 'Applications', 'Other drivers' - so once C was formatted, I could install everything I needed, with the latest versions, without having to bother with the original CDs, etc. - I also backup those folders to another drive [I have 5 in the case], so even if I end up with a total OS failure/HDD crash on those partitions, I SHOULD be ok :spin:
