General gearbox

Hi folks thought i would share my problem with you all ive got 06plate 2.8jtd had engine rebuilt about 6months agocost a prity penny, picked it up 3days later horrible noise coming from front end seems some bolt snapped ?? i do about 800 miles a week round the doors drive it with care then after 3months lost 4thgear had to keep usein it busy time of year .got used to going from 3rd to 5th then after 2months after tryin a few times prev it went straight into 4th it was ok for a fortnight then one morning could not get any gears managed to get 1st 2nd with a crunch at the moment can get all gears but 3rd jocal garage say got to go to gear box specialist not looking forward to that got weeks hols soon so looks like im gona have to bite the bullet any body else had any thing like this.

Hi guys to update on my ducato gearbox, ive got all 5 gears for about a week now .
sometimes a little crunch but nothing bad,had some funny moments thou .while sitting at junction out of gear got horrible vibration and noise from box dipped clutch it went off put in 1st let clutch out for about 2 seconds nothing then it thumped into gear ,done this i few times now but not always still change gear really smooth after that would be interested if anyone had any thoughts or ideas about this thanks in advance.

Its seems to be easy to knock the inner end of the driveshaft out of the gearbox when working on the van. maybe they lost oil when they were replacing the engine, unfortunately no easy way to check the level on the gear box, you're supposed to drain and refill.

Regardless of level with all the crunching you've been experiencing the box will be full of metal anyway so should be drained.

You need to overfill the box to ensure adequate lubrication of the 5th gear. There are other posts about this.

Have you checked the gear linkage and gearlinkage adjustment.

Regarding the vibration if it was a heavy vibration I'd wonder about you're clutch and release bearing.
