gearbox

Hi all.
I am looking for a bit of help. I have just bought my first car, a fiat seicento sporting. I really like the car, but straight away the gears and clutch didn't seem to play. I have had the clutch cable replaced, but the gears are still hard to work.:bang:
From previous reading, I have seen that this seems to be a common problem with these cars and there is something that can be done with the oil in it. I don't really know anything about cars so am looking for someone to tell me what the best thing to do in simple terms.
I don't want to get rid of it if possible as I can't afford another car if I do.
