Technical Gearbox/Selector problem

This morning my Marea TD 100 started to experience problems either with the selector or the gear box its self. This manifested its self as a "loose" feiling when changing in to first gear, it felt like there was no definite position for the gear stick to engage and it felt like the clutch was not fully engaged but there was no grinding noise adn there was some traction -no much though. Using force Pull up the gear stick and put it in to gear seem to help but was a lot of effort and I am wary of doing more damage.
I think it could be the selector? Any one got any ideas? need to get baack on the road.
