why did only about half a litre of oil come out of the gearbox and only about half a litre went back in ? the book says two point four litres, which is a big difference. are we missing something ? thanks. pat

Sounds like you haven't drained it all out. You drained 1/2 litre out, therefore only 1/2 litre can go back in ;)

When I've changed the oil in my gearboxes I always jack the car up higher on one side to tilt the gearbox towards the drainplug. I've always managed to fill up with approx. 2 - 2.4 litres afterwards. Are you sure your car is on level ground when you're draining/ refilling? Have you tried going for a run and then re-checking the level? Both of these might help.

Also, have you checked that your gearbox should actually have 2.4 litres? There's a few different types fitted to Unos but I only know that the early type has a 2.4 litre capacity. The later gearboxes may be different.

mechanic looked underneath and it turns out there's no drain plug !

you need to take the box off to drain it on my mk1 turbo, oil comes out the same way it goes in!
LOL I find using the Drain plug much easier on Uno Turbos Mark ;).

Oil comes out without removing the box or putting the Uno on it's roof that way

Same place on all 3 types of Turbo boxes (y) not Not NOT! the one you need an Alan key for!! yer I found out the hard way :bang:

it's below the N/S driveshaft circled in the above with a nut head (y).
