Technical Gearbox issue

I have a 2018 fiat ducato. Since owning it from 2023 I hear a ticking noise in first gear and it pops out of gear when I lift of the accelerator in 1st.
I have fou d a mechanic who wants to put a new gearbox in.
Do you think this is necessary or does anyone know if it is fixable?

If when you select first gear it goes all the way in to gear and jumps out then I suspect it is a gearbox overhaul or replacement.
You could ask a gearbox specialist about gear selector indent springs etc. But clutching at straws.
