Hi all.

Im new to this forum, but I hope you can all help me. Sorry in advance for the essay, I hope you can read it all without getting bored.

Right so I have a T'Reg swb Ducato 1.9td van. I love this van, and dont want to swap or sell it, my only problem is the gear ratios. Once you hit 50mph its very loud, and really being strained for power, as if it wants to change up into 6th gear,(but its only a 5speed) then at 55+ it screams, and if I need to get somewhere at 65, it drinks fuel like a fish. Is this normal for this van? Any one else have the same problem.

My 1.9td berlingo did 85+ with no problem, yes i know its a smaller van.

I see the motorhome versions of this van flying past at 80mph, I understand they probably have a bigger engine, but i want to be able to go at least 70mph without destroying the engine.

So my question is; I want to do a gearbox swap, did they do a 6 speed gearbox for this van?
Which other vans have gearboxes that are compatible?
What would everyone suggest?

Im not interested in lugging massive loads, I only ever have 1 quad or a motor bike in at once, so the low ratios are no good for me.

All answers welcomed, Ive had a quick scan of the forum with the search tool, and saw a thread mentioning gearbox ratios, but couldnt find the thread it referred to.

Many thanks

Hello everyone!
I have the same problem as BCAbikes said in the post before, I use my Ducato 19td Mk2 only for transporting 2 dirtbikes at once and never transport more than 500kg. When i reach 100km/h in 5th gear engine starts to get very noisy and at 115 starts to scream. Help anyone? Thanks.

The 5th gear set (inside the bolted on housing on the end of the gearbox) can be replaced/changed fairly easily (i.e. without removing the gearbox!)

I believe it is possible to get high or low ratio gear sets to cover the situation where the van normally runs fully loaded (i.e. motorhomes) or not, though I don't know how you could tell which sort is currently fitted to your van.

Worth checking before going to the hassle of changing the box......
