Hi There,

Need a bit of help please.
I have a Fiat Uno 1100 Fire 1992 Mk2 model which uses a cabled gearbox.
Gearbox is shot and I cannot find a decent one anywhere can only find hydraulic one's for 1995 and 1998

I was thinking of converting over to hydraulic.
Can anyone advise if this is possible and what I would need to complete this project successful if possible.

Thanks in advance:)

It's possible to change a MK2 turbo gearbox from hydraulic to cable, just need to change over the clutch fork top from slave cylinder type to cable type. the casing has the stop point for the end of the clutch cable sheath.

but you can't so easily change a MK1 turbo topshoft box to hydraulic as there is a 1 missing bolt hole for the slave cylinder mount bracket.

for fire engine (sorry read your question wrong) ...
Which gearbox are you thinking of fitting as there are other issues if your going from late (post 92 / punto) type box to an early type.

-gear selector rods run under the car on the early box, late box has rod and cable running through the car to top of box (shifters not interchangeable)
-Drive shafts are oil filled (wet cups) for early box, dry cups on late, so drive shafts not interchangeable.
-Clutch kits may not be the same - possibly issues with number of teeth on input shaft.

Hi Louie Bee

Thanks for the reply.
As I indicated mine is 1992 fire cabled gearbox with linkage rods under the car.
I can get a 1998 hydraulic gearbox with all the accessories namely:

  • Inner and outer CV's with driveshafts
  • Linkage rods that fit through the inside of the car
  • Paddle rail
  • Clutch reseviour with pipes
  • Hydraulic clutch cylinder that fits on the steering column inside car.
As per my assessment the only thing I need is a new clutch kit suitable for the hydraulic gearbox.
Not sure if the above is all I need and would like advise.
I also want to know if it's possible to do and the difficulty level involved.

My concern also is the linkage rods and bracket at the steering column for the hydraulic clutch cylinder not sure if my model have provision for attach this.

Many Thanks
