General Gearbox bearings

To my considerable surprise these are still available from Fiat at a price - dealer quoted about £200 + VAT for the four. Extortionate I think - Bearing Man can do them for a lot less - the three ordinary ball races are £8 each in correct C3 grade made by FAG and available from branch stock. The front layshaft bearing, a cageless barrel roller manufactured by SNR may be more difficult, however the price is expected to be less than £20 !
My order is in - will be starting a box rebuild for the 4x4 pretty soon.

Sadly, the cageless barrel roller cannot be found by Bearing man - apparently manufacture ceased some time ago and remaining stocks are with fiat at ridiculous prices.

If you're after shaft bearings I'll check SKF number and let you know tommorow.

You may be debating, as I did, whether to reinstall the old rollers or new balls in their place. I reused the rollers and had no problems. But would love to know how a box with all balls sounds and lasts...

Ideally, yes. however the roller bearing runs smoothly, has no rough spots, catches or undue play. I do have a 4x2 box to cannibalize if needed.
I'm also considering replacing 3rd gear synchro -the replacement is unlikely to be much better unless I stump up for a new one.
