Gas shocks

Just wondered what the actual advantages of gas shocks are compared to normal ones? Im thinking of geting my car lowered and getting the gas shocks but just wanna make sure that they are worth it. How long do shocks normally last for?

Lifetime of them is down to how many bumps you travel over

on normal roads, on a normal car, i personally would expect decent shocks to do 5 years, but if your car is lowered, or tuned, or you race, or drive on crap roads, farm tracks etc, then you can easily half the time before they are worn out.
