There are examples in the past of cars that straddled tax changes being worth more (early monaros for example) but the amount involved in the this case is a drop in the ocean compared to depreciation and running costs on the car. Realistically it will cost 1.4k if the car lasts 10 years, you'll lose more than that in VAT in the second you leave the forecourt.

So to sum up they may be worth a little more but I wouldn't expect much.

There are many thousands of cars which are very cheap or free to tax. If someone wants a new car I don't think that paying £140 a year in tax will sway them.

Our diesel mini is free to tax and my very heavy 2 litre diesel golf is only £30 so there is plenty of choice aside from a few Fiat's will very low tax rates, intact things are so silly now even big BMWs and Mercs fall into the £30 tax bracket which is really what has prompted the change
