Hi all im a newbie and enjoy reading about other cars and their problems. I bought a 2006 1.4 16v in may and its been great. A few weeks ago i smelt fumes from the engine and thanks to this forum discovered the split breather hose. I could not find a replacement in car parts shops so i had to buy a "kit" from fiat main dealer for £31. I fitted this 5 inch long hose with hose clip each end but a smokey smell is still there. Has anyone any ideas where the smell is coming from?

Check the lower timing cover for traces of oil.
I've replaced an rubber o ring 3 times now for an oil leak.
It cures it for about 2 months then comes back.

Thanks for the suggestion. The timing cover was clean so i called into a garage who put the car up on a ramp. Oil was dripping from drive shaft directly onto the exhaust and burning. A new drive shaft seal fitted and no more fumes.
