Fuel injectors (1.6)

Does anyone know if there's a general problem with the injectors on the 1.6 engine (1998 Brava, 45000 mls)? I've had replaced in the last six months - bpoth failed after the car had been left standing for a week - and the local injection specialist reckons they eat them?

Yep

seems to be the case, had no. 2 & 3 replaced on my 97 1.6 at about 40,000, not sure as to what happens when they fail, wondered if there was any way of reducing the risk of this happening ie. additives?

Fuel Injectors

Mine did something which sounds a bit similar...

(1998/9 1.6SX Bravo)
Winter 2000/01 which would have been about 40,000 miles (now on 57,000) my car was left stood for about 5/6 days and then wouldn't start.
Called the mechanic and he came out and fixed it but I wasn't there at the time. I remember he said something to do with the injectors blocking or flooding or something, it's over a year ago now, but I can ask him next time I speak to him.
I know he said it was common on Bravo's and Brava's, but he was only there 15-20 mins, and it cost £20 for the callout and been fine since...?!?!

I wonder if fuel injector cleaner additives you put in the petrol would help such as redex, or has this been proved to be a bad idea????

Well, I tried some injector cleaner when the first one failed, but it didn't stop the second injector failing, so I guess it isn't a simple problem of the injector getting blocked....

There is a fault with 1.6 injectors

I've had 3 fail now on my 1.6sx. As they are a weber part, I went to my local weber carb dealer and ordered them from him. £60 each rather than £110 from FIAT. He told me the guy at weber's parts department said 'oh yeah, we've had to change the design as there was a problem'

No idea when the design was changed but from talking to various Fiat/Weber people, the 1.6 does like to chew up its injectors and its a BASTARD of a job to change them.
