Am in process of changing head gasket 1.1 mpi sporting.
Can I replace the fuel injector pipe clips with jubilee clips when re-assemble or is there a more suitable clip available?

Also any do's and don'ts would be very gratefully received. Replacing head gask on my non mpi 1.1, seemed a much easier job. Have little experience of petrol injection stuff.

I have downloaded manuals but got some horrendous malware from the freebies I downloaded to open the manual format [my fault I know]. Recommendations here would be gratefully received also!

Many thanks again fingers 99, on closer inspection it is exactly as you say ..the 2 main pipes just unclip -brilliant!!
Also appreciate your advice earlier re: 'misfire when cold problem' ..same car.
I did not post any more then as the misfire improved to the extent I could not even isolate which cyl was affected. However last few days started running on 3 again with a vengeance [clearly cyl No 1] now also continues misfiring when hot, along with intermittent loss of coolant, and I notice a greasy oily coating has appeared on the inside of the coolant header tank. [engine oil still seems pristine though] so anyway replacement head gasket now fully under way!!

Grateful for safe source for unrar file conversion, took half the morning to get rid of all the stuff that infested my PC last time...!

Now thanks to your advice all re-assembled and runs sweet again, (no misfiring) -but have warning light on ..the yellow one showing a little line drawing of the engine.. No mention of what this is in instruction book.

I know it is probably in the manual, but I have the problem of being completely useless when it comes to the internet. The site you kindly recommended unpacks the rar quickly and efficiently but leaves most files in something called HTM? The many sites claiming to convert HTM seem to do no such thing.. Abandoned in the end as was starting to take longer than actually doing the engine!! Or could this be yet another problem with the Windows 8.1 I have been blighted with..

Odd. The extension should be .pdf -- adobe acrobat's format. On the original there were some .html files which served as indexes and re-directs to the .pdf files (.htm or .html is the standard format for all web pages -- IE should open them). But I think Dave did the rather strange "chop it into 3 bits" thing and may have ditched the html.

Acrobat is free -- just make sure you download it from Adobe -- Google will find.

I think you may find what you're looking for on p.48 of the manual -- but I've an Owner Handbook from an earlier model (I think) -- probably the EML light -- get the codes read.

Don't worry it's probably me ..I am fatal with anything digital. I notice very large No' seem to have downloaded the manual with no probs.!! Have Adobe Acrobat set as a right click option, but it just goes into that random screen indicating that it is not going to work..

-A message does come up on all HTM files something along the lines of what you mention i.e. "this 3 part doc is opening in wrong sequence files will only partially open, but the only option after that is "ok!"

As the car seems to be running so well am hoping I can just ignore the warning message for the time being while getting more info?

just to check you are doing this right....

download all parts, place them in the same folder on your computer. Only when you have all parts in the same place uncompress them with whatever program you using (again, leave all the resulting files in same folder) you should only need to uncompress any one of them and it will unzip all the files from all 3 at the same time because of how the files were made.

you should get the files shown in the pic attached in the folder you have unzipped them to. If you open the file 'index.html' it will open in your default internet browser and you can just browse through it from there like your are using a website.

Oh and fingers, its in 3 parts as there is a limit to how big the files can be - hence the cinq manual you sent me the other day is also split into a few files ;)

Can Ben sort that? It's going to make life difficult for folk, and -- by current standards -- none of the files is uber large. A link to the Winrar page on Sourceforge would save people from getting malware by accident, too. Just a thought.

I can still burn the thing to CD, but the new postal rates often mean I'm taking a loss doing it (depends who is on the counter at the Post Office).

Many thanks for the instructions re the manuals.

Have deleted everything and started again from scratch, downloaded all 3 parts into one folder (as before). Tried opening with Z Zip Doxillion Winzip NCH and something else.
At various points it looked as if it would convert with Adobe reader but my Adobe does't seem to want to operate while the files are the particular software conversion boxes pertaining to the above.

By the way re engine warning message -I remembered that similar engine warning icon came up on one of my prev Saabs which at the time = Lambda sensor.
So thoroughly degreased and dried sensor body and low and behold light goes out!!

mmm, there is no warning light for that, i would guess its just the engine management light - that and the I'M TOO HOT light are the only warning lights on these lol..

Looks like a hose pipe nozzle spraying the light - no idea why fiat decided they need a different EML to every other car really.

You don't even need to pull the fuel rail out... Just unbolt the manifold and pull it out of the head, then tilt it and leave it be. Takes a bit of wiggling your arms around to get to the bolts, but you'll manage!

Trust me... You don't want to disconnect the fuel rail from the pipe. The quick detatch clip will break, and when it does, it will only fit right one more time.

Can confirm sei mpi definitely has yellow engine warning icon ...when ign switched on nat. Unlike my sei spi which thankfully much simpler all round...!

Can say more about hose pipe nozzle spraying the light?

-I'm told Lambda ext body apparently needs to be clean otherwise unable to sense oxygen levels to establish differentials? Or somethin like that!! It was very greasy...! Anyway the light is still out and engine still runs ok, naturally no petrol leaks. Will post if different...!

Yes, MPI Seis have the yellow MIL light. The red light on previous generations was just an early implementation of a fault check light, should work for a number of reasons like the yellow one, albeit not the same.

The MK2 Puntos from 1999/2000 fitted with Euro 2 ECUs have a red engine light which does not seem to mind, for example, if the car is lacking the lambda probes. It will only turn on for severe faults such as the MAP going bust. The Euro 3 cars will turn it on for a bigger number of things, like something so simple as ignition faults (which are a constant with FIRE 8V engines). However, not all things make it come on. It won't mind the lack of the cam sensor for example!
