Technical Fuel filter replacement

Hi everyone some advice is needed, I want to replace my 1.9 04 reg JTD diesel fuel filter myself but I can't work out how to disconnect the plug on the bottom of the filter so i can spin it off and it's hard to see the thing. Whats the procedure here as I don't want to trash anything.

on my punto jtd i found it easier to remove the fuel lines and unbolt the filter from the car then unplug the sensor cable from the bottom you can then unscrew the bottom connection,
be careful whilst doing this as the filter is full of fuel

My next move was as you describe toad101 just wondered if there was an easy answer to the sensor plug removal but guess not, thanks for the info.

i couldn't get my hand to the sensor due to the lack of room
