Hi,

I have a 1980 Fiat Spider and noticed that my front windows are very close to hitting the back windows up at the top. The first thing I check was for door sag but both sides seem to be in proper alignment. I guess I never notices since the top was usually down.

I am not sure about the adjsutment available on the driver/passenger window. They seem seating in the frame correctly. And the rear windows are part of the convertible top so not sure if this is adjustable.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue and is this be fixed? I am concerned that I am a
door closing away from a possible chipped window.

Thanks,

Not sure about your 124, but generally with door panel off it is possible to see if it is slack in the guides or sometimes the channels can be adjusted sideways a little in their slots.
I have even found oiling the guides regularly helps as if they are sticking it has the affect of throwing the glass off to one side which may be the cause of the two windows getting close to each other.
If you are sure there is no issue with the roof side then a clue is if the gap gets closer the further the window is wound up to the top.
Another thing I have seen is where the method of attachment of the glass to the window regulator is bad. Some vehicle s bond the glass to the regulator bracket , some are in a rubber sandwich between a metal cup/channel either of these can be fitted badly .
later Fiats use a hole in the glass to match a pin in the regulator which is then secured with a plastic horseshoe clip.
Of course the other cause you would not want to see is where the body is flexing causing the gap to close.
As an apprentice in the late 1960s we had a customer with much loved Morris 1000 convertible, we found that with the car jacked up whilst doors open the body flexed to the degree there was a 1/4inch overlap at top of door so it would not close.:(
This is why generally convertibles have some form of extra chassis stiffening than the same model in hard top form.
