Hey all, just throwing a quick hello out there. I'm a newbie to the forum and to cars in general but I have my eye on the Fiat Punto Sporting 1.2 16V model (mk2) to buy as my very 1st car and have been trying to research whether this would be a good choice 2 go with. The car looks great and the spec looks ok too but I definitely need to find out more so welcome any experiences, good + bad, that any of you would like to share about buying/owning one of these. :)

Thx!

As far as insurance goes, would being a 16v and a sports model make the premium higher?

The MK2 is a good solid car if looked after. They ride and handle well and the 1.2 16v engine is a revy little beast.

They are getting on a bit now, so worth getting someone with experience with these cars to check it over.

Make sure the steering works properly. Make sure it can do lock to lock at standstill without exploading. Will effectively write the car off if the power steering is faulty, and its a very common problem. Other general electrical niggles can cause problems but they are generally sound. Quite basic in and out really no not too much to go wrong.

Yes, although it is still a low insurance group. Only the HGT has a high group. Depends on your age/experience though.

I insure an MK1 Sporting (same engine) for around £300 a year (Male, 26, 7 years no claims)

Great little cars, but as with any 2nd hand car try to buy one with a bit of service history, ie cambelt changed etc,
Don't buy one without history otherwise could end up an expensive hobby lol!
