Hi all, well I finally passed my driving test last week and have just bought my first car - '97 Bravo HLX. I must admit I'm glad I went with the Bravo. Originally I was buying a Peugeot 306 DT but couldn't find a decent one, it was only after my mate pursuaded me to look at the Bravo that I bought it.

I've got a couple of questions I'd like to ask. First of all, alloys. The standard HLX alloys are quite nice but I want something bigger (story of my life). What offset/pcd do I need to get and what other cars have the same fitment? Can I for example buy second hand aftermarket alloys that came of a Ford or Vauxhall?...

Secondly, stereo. I've got a 6 disc CD multi changer and the original tape head unit. It's not the normal 'letter box' shape and I wondered if I can get some sort of adaptor/surround for a different stereo.

And last but not least, performance. My mate drove the car back for me and he said that although by no means slow, it wasn't the quickest 1.8 16v he had drove. Are there any relatively cheap and simple mods that I can do to give it a bit more power? Nothing extreme, just a few pointers like air filter and stuff like that.

Sorry for waffling a bit, any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate, firstly welcome to the Forum.

Regarding your questions:

The Fiat fitment are 4X98PCD (That's with tapered bolts) or you can fit 4X100 (Vauxhall 4 studs) etc, with wobbly bolts (Which is what I've got!)

Okay.. now that's cleared up.

The headunit. Yes there are two replacement adapters. One is ****, the other is the dogs. You can get the dogs one from http://www.autoaudioaccessories.co.uk or alternatively you can goto Halfords and get a **** one. (By the way, Jonathan owns this site, he also has a HLX and is on the Forum - get one of these!)

As for performance increase, well you said nothing major but I may as well tell you.

Novitec do a Turbo conversion to approx 150bhp? from your standard 115. They're about £3,000 fitted.
If you only want an Air Filter and Exhaust system then I can recommend Quickshift for the filter (They make their own Stainless Steel ones) and they're based in the North West. If you want the number for them, let me know. I think they're £70 fitted - A few of us of the Forum here have had it done and they sound the dogs too! Exhaust wise - Goto Powerflow or somewhere for a full SS system.

Yogis has a 1.8Hlx (Marea :p) and with Air filter/Stainless Steel System/Manifold he had an extra 1.2Bhp. I think that's correct, Tom?

Any more questions, fire away!

Ian.

Welcome to the Forum mate!

Ian answered all your questions just to say hello and welome! :)

just one thing though, do not buy one of the "bhp increasers" that you can buy off ebay - it is just a 10p resistor that does not increase your bhp, however, nige can give you a 13bhp increase for £330 - email him details are in this thread here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/thread?forumid=15639&messageid=1080319426&lp=1080403804

Titanic???
Welcome aboard mate
Disconnect your battery for a day to reset the ECU
then when it re-learns your driving style it should feel a lot better.
