General Fix & Go kit

LOL Andy,

But seriously, I watched an article on these the other day.

They said the problem is everyone knows how to change a tyre but nobody knows how to use these things correctly (myself included).

I think its a generation thing, I could see someone in 20 years time say 'I went to get the repair kit and found a spare wheel god dammit!'

I will always be a fan of a spare wheel but I think if I knew how to use one of those kits i'm sure it would be fine

You would be find if you had a small hole made by a nail for example but stuffed if you had cut a big gash in the sidewall for example.

The problem is that spare wheels cost lots more than a pump and goo kit. They also weigh more and affect official economy and performance figures. Grande owners should think themselves lucky, atleast we can buy an aftermarket spare. Many cars don't have a spare wheel well at all these days.

Think the general conciousness is to find the hole rotate it so it sits at the lowest point then inject the goo then rock car back and forth to spread goo about the damaged area.

then inflate

drive a short distance and check pressure

(this comes from using liquid latex in mountain bike tubeless tyres)

Also if you use the kit you ruin the tyre. The puncture cannot be repaired if you pump the goo stuff in :(

If I knew that I wouldn't have used it

£135 for new Dunlop tyre. Thing is only done 2000 mile on the tyre. Argh joys of motoring

I've actually heard that's utter rubbish, just that tyre places can't be bothered with cleaning the old tyre out, cheaper for them to sell you a replacement as they don't charge you time to fit a tyre, it's all in, where as in the time it takes for them to clean out your old tyre they could have fitted another few cars with tyres and got more money in (y)

Completely useless if you get a blow out or similar, it comes off with soapy water apparently national tyres do it but charge a small fee (source back of a tyreweld tin a few months back :p)
