hi can any one help just bought a brava 16.cc 16v and been told it needs a thermostat is this easy to do and how do you do it i`m a single mum can`t afford garage prices would be greatful if someone can help.thanks
Where are you located....... what problems are you having with the car i.e. overheating taking ages to get to running temp.... its not a really hard job to change one.... if your thinking of doing this yourself then you'll need some jubilee clips and some more anti freeze/summer coolant to fill up the cooling system make sure the car is cold when you do it
As karl says, first you have to make sure that it is the thermostat that needs renewing. The temp gauge should be approximately half way up the scale. If that is reading ok then more than likeley you will have air in the system and will need bleeding
its real easy to do. i'm sure i posted a rough guide (no pictures) on how to do it. Its realy quite easy. if you can se a screwdriver, and know what a spanner and a jubilee clip is, then you know all you really need to...
Its on the right hand side of the engine block, and has about 4 black rubber hoses clipped onto it, in different sizes.

Hi, im not to sure what you mean by fast, but if the timing was out your car would not tick over properly it would feel sluggish or even a massive loss of power.... this can be caused by a cambelt change done wrong...
Can you confirm the following...
When you start the car.....
Where does the rev counter needle rest??
Should be just under 1000 (about 700-800rpm)
How long does it take to get to running temp, temp gauge should be just below half way and take a short while to get there maybe 3 miles worth of driving?
When you say running fast it almost sounds like the adjuster on the throttle cable in the engine bay is too tight.
