Hi all,

I'm new to this forum but I've owned my Qubo since March this year. I picked it up 2nd hand and, like a lot of cars these days, it only has a can of squirty nonsense for use in the event of punctures.

The sort of driving I do with my car means I would be happier with a spare wheel. I was wondering if anybody on here has had a spare wheel carrier fitted to their Qubo by a dealers and not as a factory fit option.

My local dealer doesn't think a spare steel wheel and the associated carrying mounts should be too expensive but they are concerned that it may not be possible to fit the carrier to the underside of a Qubo. Their parts database only shows spare wheel carriers for the Fiorino van and there is apparently no official Fiat guidance for fitting a spare wheel carrier to a Qubo. To be fair to them they don't want to order in parts that they may not be able to fit and that I will have to pay for.

Anybody know if it can be done? I can see no reason why not as the mountings underneath should in theory be identical. I contacted Fiat UK with this logical observation only to be told they don't have a technical department and if the garage is unsure then it can't be done. Just as well I like the car as the customer service from the parent company is rubbish!

Hi
We brought our 09 qubo second hand, it does have a full size spare wheel, two wing nut bolts to undo, have never had to use it yet so not sure how it comes off hope this helps. WP_000059.jpg

Hmmm useful to see....I did read somewhere the fittings DO exsist for a cage of somesort noticed recently now it's a factory option for a "steel wheel" at £90+ quid (eek)

Thanks for the feedback guys. My Qubo is in for a service next week so I'll get the garage to order the bits in. Mine is a basic model with only steel wheels so that will at least be relatively cheap to order. I'll let you know how I get on.

Yes you only need a steel wheel as a spare really.
Where are you, i have 4 15'' wheels if you want one?
I've got a set of 17'' alloy wheels on mine so the steel ones are sitting around
luigi

So you mean to say your not fitting the 15s with winter tyres  :p

Thanks for the offer of a 2nd hand wheel but at the moment I'm locked in a frustrating discussion with my local dealer who are convinced it can't be done. They claim the parts kit for a Qubo spare wheel doesn't exist and that as the Fiorino is a van it must have a different underbody arrangement?!?! Having looked underneath Fiorinos and Qubos with spare wheels I know that this isn't the case

The way I see it is this; if the spare wheel kit is a factory fit option there must be the option to buy spares in case the retaining cage gets damaged during the course of a vehicles life. According to my local dealer this is illogical because their spare parts system doesn't have any details on one. I've contacted Fiat UK but quite frankly I'd be better off discussing the issue with my dog as I would get more sense out of him.

I'm going to try a couple of more established Fiat dealers. Failing that it will be a sharp email to Fiat in Italy. I'm beginning to think my local Peugeot and Citroen dealers may be more use with regard to obtaining the parts I want.

How hard can it be to spend money in a Fiat dealership? I like my Qubo a lot but I bought it with the expectation that I could fit a spare wheel to it. At this rate I'll be getting rid as the sort of mileage I'll be doing in it, and the areas I'll be driving in, mean I'll be needing a spare wheel at some point.

I tried that and got a 'computer says no' type response. I'm going to ring round some of the other Fiat dealers in the county to see if they are slightly more proactive in helping customers spend money.:bang:

How can computer say no? Look on auto trader for a Fiorino, note the number plate and order the parts from that :)

Thats the problem when the 'parts people' rely totally on the parts system computer, if it fails to show up clearly so they can see it.....its a no no !!
Hope it gets sorted.
Cheers Qube O.

You can buy a spare wheel and fitting kit for a Qubo, I looked into getting a full size spare and all the parts to fit it underneath about two years ago, Went into shock at the amount the dealer wanted and decided I didn't want one after all!

Good look with your search.

I've just joined the "spare wheel club" and ditched my squirty, scrap the tyre spray stuff can (y). I bought the new 15" steel wheel on eBay (£25) and had a nearly new 185/65R15 tyre fitted with valve and balance at my local garage (£25). Jack and 17mm spanner from scrap yard (£5).
As I don't have the rear seats in I put the spare in the back, standing up on the left and held by a bungee hook. My dogs complained though so I looked at a second-hand carrier (Qubo, Fiorino, Bipper & Nemo) but soon discovered they are rare, vanish as fast as they are advertised and you're unlikely to get all the bits you need.
My Mate worked at Peugeot and still gets discount on spares (20-25%), so he ordered the bits for a Bipper van (you need a reg number!). Retail £188, I paid £145 ;). Half an hour to fit myself - six 8mm Nylok nuts on the winch/winder and six 6mm Nylok washer nuts on the three wheel spacer/supports, all onto existing studs - job done. Dogs are happy :devil: and so am I :D.
My Qubo has 195/55R16 tyres on alloy wheels but the circumference of the 185/65 tyre on the 15" steel spare is almost identical. Don't fit a 14" as this can affect the ABS.
I have Peugeot/Citroen part numbers if required.
