I've done a couple of single dins in my time but this is the first time I've done a double din and I'm a bit stuck. I'm pretty sure I've bought all the supposedly correct kit but it doesn't seem to fit.

thankfully I've managed to test the new car stereo in the car and that works fine but now the old Blaupunkt is out I can't see where the cage goes and the fascia can't seem to go into the void as it's blocked by fixing points for the metal bracket I removed.

I'll explain my problem with pics. I removed the stereo and all it's fittings then attempted to fit the cage but there's no where for it 'hook' into and it just rattle about in a large hole.

So I thought perhaps the cage needs to go in after the fascia which seems to make sense.

That looks right doesn't it? Now if I could get it in I could just fold out those tabs.

Anyway I have this fascia with metal clips on the ends.

I tried slotting it in but it doesn't seem to go in as the plastic that the old stereo screwed into now seems to be in the way, am I not being forceful enough or do things need to be modified?

Really like to hear from someone who's actually managed to fit a car stereo in a Panda.

Not done a double-DIN, but your new fascia looks very similar to my single DIN one. The spring clips you've placed on the new fascia legs are looking correct. They need to clip over the plastic where the original screws fitted, you may have to remove the original screw clips. They will fight, as they will need prising open to release.

Once the fascia is in, then the cage goes in and the edges clamped by spreading the tabs.

Hopefully the the peg on the back of the new unit will go nicely into one of the holes in the moulding behind.

I fitted a JVC double din in my 100HP and had the same issues as you.
The metal clips that go on the four prongs of the fascia in your picture where useless and pinged off never to be seen again.

I resorted to dremel'ing the prongs off so that the fascia slotted in ok.
I then fitted the cage flush with the fascia lip and folded out as many of the tabs as I could.

Mine has been in for more than a year like this and is absolutely solid.

Hope that helps.

So remove these metal covers around the screw holes

and then attempt to push the fascia in? I'm not sure it'll work but it's worth a go. Any idea what the Blue, green and yellow connector is for?

Peg?

So you modify the fascia and not the dash. That sounds doable.

Yep I didn't have any instructions with the fascia so my think was if I sell the car I would rather mod the new doubledin fascia so the original head unit goes straight back in.

My double din has a small thread on the back in the centre and there was a nut n bolt with a rubber cover that acts as a peg, which is supposed to balance the back of the unit on the support in the back of the dash cavity

The coloured connectors feed the data to the separate display if the radio data is displayed elsewhere, they connect bluetooth data in and mute, also used for other data in and CD changer etc. Also used for steering wheel controls if present. Any alternative unit will ignore these, losing their functionality. If you have steering wheel controls you'll need the adaptor that plugs in behind, between the car cables and the head unit, presumably as its a 100hp it will be CanBus so either a CanBus adaptor alone, or one that does the wheel controls too is needed, specific to your unit.

More space behind needed, a real b***** to get them all back in.

On the back face of the original unit, and the replacement is usually a peg, to support the weight of it. Deep in the dark recess of your pic are two oval holes for this purpose.

Forgot to thank you folks. I removed the metal covers and gave it a nice shove & much to my surprise the fascia went in. The stereo is all in now and looks OK.

Thanks for the help. (y)

Looks like you've used the cage that came with the fascia trim, did the headunit come with one as well? I fitted an Alpine double din yesterday and the generic one didn't let the headunit fit properly, whereas the one supplied with the Alpine did

Were you supposed to remove the surround on the unit? It looks a bit big, especially at the top.

Looks alright to me. I did a wee bit of research before I fitted mine & they all kinda look like that in Pandas from what I can tell. The only person who managed to make there's look flush didn't use a cage.
Have a look at Rooflessdriver one

I bought the cage and fascia separately but it's just a universal double din cage as my headunit didn't come with one.

Here is mine fitted. Needed a really hard shove to get it clicked into the cage, which I wouldn't want to do with a touchscreen unit.

The Alpine cage and surround made it fit far better than the generic one, so I'd suggest anyone with or looking at having a double din unit see if they can get a decent surround.

I think the generic ones would be fine in other cars but don't work in the Panda. Some of the angles of photos taken on this forum accentuate the problem as they're taken from slightly below the unit.

Not saying mine's perfect, but some of the ones on this forum actually put me off getting a double din.

Yeah it's not flush but it looks good to me. Can't say I have any complaints about the way it looks.
