Technical Fitted new cambelt and water pump now have error

I have just done the cambelt and water pump and think I did a good job. Ran the engine for an hour yesterday after refilling. Today I put the covers on and finished the job. Ran the engine again and after revving up the engine a little to clear any air, switched off.

Next time I switched on I got the MIL. Used FiatEcuScan which reported error P1320 Cam/crank signal synchronization. See below. Obviously I had to disturb the cam sensor to remove the pump but am not aware of damaging anything. Why the stored error? Is there still a problem?
When I next switched on the MIL was off but the error is still stored. Is there a test I can run in FiatEcuScan? Any help appreciated

Hopefully a bit of grease/residue on the sensor face.
It's a while since I did mine so I can't remember if there's scope for adjustment of clearance in this sensor??
Main thing is sounds like Your timing is good

Hi there , first step is to check the sensor and wiring condition . if all ok after that I would be rechecking the timing .

Unfortunately to do that I will have to remove the camshaft sprocket again as it is behind it.
It has run and the fault is re-stored after a few miles. Yesterday it wouldn't start, well it started and stopped immediately so I obviously have a problem....
Will recheck my work if it stops raining!

Hi , sorry to hear your having such a nightmare . First thing to do is recheck the timing marks and go from there . If the marks are out then its worth lining them back up correctly to see if it still runs and no valve damage has happened .

I checked the timing marks and belt tension and they were spot on. Reading a few posts on various forums I came to the conclusion I may have damaged the camshaft position sensor. I have removed the camshaft sprocket and the sensor. Hope everything will be OK when I have a replacement sensor fitted

Well after checking the timing again I cleared the error. Removed the camshaft sprocket, fitted another camshaft position sensor from a used and formerly working Multipla, redid the timing belt. Car started straight away and I let it run for 20 mins
Then noticed the engine light was back on
Same error.
Cleared the error and it was back straight away before attempting to start. It didn't do that before swapping the sensor. It doesn't start at all so the ecu is not allowing the injectors to function.
I have just disconnected the battery and will check again in the morning.
I have done both my Multiplas in exactly the same way.within 3 days of each other. They were both fine before doing the cam belts and water pumps. The first is fine but I have this problem only on the second one. I haven't touched anything else so don't see why the crankshaft sensor should be at fault. I just assumed it was the camshaft sensor because you have to unscrew in to change the pump. I didn't disconnect the cable but have now when I swapped the sensor.
Any suggestions welcomed.

I suggest you swap crank sensors since you happen to have 2 multis..,
It's a quick job, haven't done it on the multi but did it on my ducato which was aJTD aswell.

I would have bet it was cam as it was interfered with during belt job.
... But it looks not to be the case.

It isn't that easy on a Multipla and the better half says I shouldn't risk putting both cars off the road
I will probably bite the bullet and buy a new after market camshaft position sensor as that seems the most likely problem to me.
Could someone check my timing. I have attached pics showing the lines on the belt and the current Fatal P1320 error.

Have just fitted a new camshaft position sensor an all is now fine as I did expect it would be! I had to retension the belt three times as you have to take the sprocket off - poor design really.

I bought the sensor and a Crankshaft position sensor (not fitted yet) on ebay.
Looks good quality and is Chinese but with UK quality control on every item.
Camshaft Position Sensor CAM-009 and Crankshaft Position Sensor CSS-039 can be got on ebay from aceparts_UK for a very cheap £11.48 incl p&p. See www.sensors.uk.com
