Hey, new to this forum. Just bought me a Cinquecento Sporting in red yesterday for the princely sum of £50 (y). Its done 59K, no mot, no tax but it runs fine! Body work looks a bit tatty, laquer is pealing on bumpers, but i can sort that out, can realy see the rest of it as its coverd in mud! But all tyres are leagal so im chuffed with it!

Just wandering, is there anything i should be looking out for, as it has been standing for about 6 months but it did start first time no problem. The handbrake seams to stick a little, probably adjusted to mutch as it has only got 2 clicks (just!!!). There seams to be smoke/steam comeing from the exhaust. There is also a problem getting first gear, i can get it but its very hard to push it into 1st. And also there is a lot of white gunk on the oil cap. This usualy means the head gasket has gone dosent it? But it dose not overheat and the oil and water level are ok.

What ya think?!

Thanks
Sion

Steam may just be condensation due to being stood for a fair while, same with the gunk (being stood, not condensation)

Give it a major service and take it on a run, obvious signs of HG failure should show (overheating etc) following this.

1st gear struggle - adjust clutch first/change gearbox oil, being stood 6 months its probably not in best condition the oil.

handbarke would probably benefit from a new cable rather than an adjust

Would just changeing the oil and adjusting the clutch realy help with getting 1st?

Thing is when i get it into 1st, when i try to pull it out again i can feel it sort of hitting something, and also the clutch peadal feels a little spoungy, nuthing like any other car iv'e drive so i take it its gone?

Another thing that makes me think this is tha theres a sort of grinding sound when i set off with it and when i push the peadal down

Thanks

P.S Very stupid question, but how do you flash the main beam on a cinq??

The stalk to put the main beam on towords me. Was something i just wanderd about anyway

Well my other car, a mk1 clio has a cable clutch as well, and feels nothing like it. But i didnt see it right just to compair it to that car as its nothing similar gearbox wise. Im not that botherd if its the clutch, there not that expensive from what ive gatherd and i can change it myself

Right found th reason i think im haveing trouble getting first

i take it the 'u' shaped thing is up-side down? as when you put it into first it hit the brake servo or a part of the brake cylinder

A few other questions
Is this supposed to be connected to anything?

And is this important as i kinda broke the braket holding it by accident the other day

charcoal canister doesnt look like that.
look down under the front bumper towards the passenger side for that.

IIRC that cinq did have a fiat alarm fitted but IIRC the sounder for that is in the wing

on the 2nd pic, where does that small wire lead to?

Welcome..(y) and its the lever from the steering wheel that looks bit like this >¦< but dotted lines (behind indicator) pull it towards you and it will flash the lights.. hmm just re read what you put and not sure if that was the question you asked heh. :D
