Hi,

I found a short closing `Buy It Now' fixed price sale on Ebay for one of the last old style Multipla's. Although registered in 2005, year of manufacture was 2004. Nobody bought it at the BIN price, so I contacted the seller by `phone after the auction and agreed a deal. Insurance money for the one I wrote off seven days ago (was it only last Sunday? Seems longer now............) won't cover it but should go over half way.

I'm not celebrating yet; although the seller seems genuine and has 100% positive feedback on Ebay, over the `phone deals have a kind of edgeness to them, BUT I have a good feel about this one. We'll see......... Just filled out an online insurance application through one of this sites sponsers.

Fingers crossed................ Jim.

Good news mate , hope all goes well on the new un.
Dont forget to check for oil from the gearbox(y)

Thank you kind Sir; oil from the gearbox? Erm.....Help? I know gearboxes contain oil, and that there must be a way of checking level and toping up/draining/changing the oil, but I didn't have my 105 JTD for long enough to check these things. Is the 115 known for gearbox oil leaks? Or are you just trying to scare me~~~~~~~~~ Jim.

Deal done; drove home last night:>). Plus daft question~~~~~

Seems like a good car; although it was first registered in February 2005 it's one of the last 2004 `old style' Multipla's with the high headlights. Drives very well; first job today before I try to remember what I do for a living is change the engine oil. Judging by the molasses dripping sluggishly from the dipstick, I suspect someone may have been a tad careless as to what they last put in the sump.

Ok, daft question. Are the external measurements smaller on the later 115 ELX than on a year 2000 105 ELX? It doesn't seem like it to drive, but my wife tells me that when she watched me back the car out of the yard, it looked like it had more side clearance. Also she said the passenger seat seemed narrower. I thought (briefly) of suggesting that maybe she was slightly wider, but such comments can be dangerous in a confined space.............. Jim.

Sizes should be the same afaik.

Gearbox oil is filled and checked using the filling hole. Put the pipe from the bottle into the hole and fill until it drips out.

If the oil is really looking that bad it might be worth flushing either with a genuine engine flush treatment or by filling with clean but cheap oil, running a few hundred miles then dumping and filling with the good stuff.

As for the seat - good call on not making comment. Don't want you having another crash due to injury. :)

Hi - Don't want to state the obvious ( to you, not to me ! ), or teach granny to suck eggs etc.. but I recently acquired a second hand Multipla. Upon checking the oil level in the engine, I found it to be very low and so duly topped it up without checking the manual etc.

Turns out I used the wrong oil. I should have used synthetic oil, instead of the normal engine oil I have always used b4 in my previous cars. I was quickly informed that using the wrong oil can cause serious damage to the engine. Fortunately, I only topped up the engine and had it properly serviced shortly after, so no harm done !

My point is, use the correct oil as they're not all the same and suitable ! ( OK any muppet knows this, but I didn't ! ).

Neither did I Kermit; one `optional extra' missing from the car is the owners manual:mad: Local motor factors (D & A) in Forfar put me right; 5 litres of 5w 40 fully synthetic. One thing I've learnt is the "Oill level too low/high" warning takes a while to settle. After overfilling the sump I drained out what I thought was enough; screen still showed "too high" message so I drained out more. Message still said "too high" so I checked the dipstick and found the oil barely touched the end. I ran the engine to make sure the oil was fully distributed; 10 minutes later the message said "too low":bang: After 1 litre at the local garage, all seems well:p

Sorry for not explaining more about the gearbox oil, what i meant was checking for leaks.
The multi i have and a guy in work had the same problem is the seal on the gearbox shaft can go and cause the box to loose all its oil, at first it just sounds like a rear wheel bearing on its way but it gets way worse.
The guy in work took his to fiat and had a recon box fitted and cost about £800 (n) i took mine out myself and dropped it at the local box place and was charged £130 to replace all the bearings and the seal and all is now well.:D
