hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows what the chassis number represents/consists of because i want to know what the year of manufacture is.Its a 58 plate grande punto but i have my doubts due to the color of the dot above the punto badge on the rear being blue and not red. can anyone confirm my suspicions?
thanks :)

Blue dot on Punto badge means it should be an active (base model)

chassis number should break down into something like

ZF = country of origin and manufacturer ID. A199000 = spec of car (ie trim, no. of doors, engine type and other tech info) last 7 numbers indicate age of car so the higher the number the newer the car

eg ZFA19900001234567 will be newer than ZFA19900000123456

Nearly right.

ZFA denotes it's a "Fiat Auto" built car (Alfa's are "ZAR"), next three are the model number ("199" being the GP) after that only the last eight matter (the chassis number for use in ePer/ eSIGI/ etc). The entire number is always 16 digits long, and you can't go just by the number value (higher = newer) because the GP is built on more than one line and as such the numbers start slightly differently to denote this. ;)
