Finally buying new wheels, help wanted

ok so after a disasterous purchase of buckled alloys, iv been forced to buy another set of alloys, going to get 15 inch ones iv found. just wonderign what the advantages of disadvantages of increasing wheel size from 14" to 15"?
sorry if this has already been asked but i didnt really know what to searth for.

Moved this topic to the bit of the forum for this sort of question.

Fitting 15" wheels will mean a drop in tyre height/profile so the ride might be a wee bit harder. Unless you get the right tyre choice, the speedo may be 'out'.
Obviously, 4 new tyres needed too - lol

Oh yeah - sure you have done this - but make sure the offset of the alloys you're getting is correct for the car.

Depends what size tyres/wheels etc.

15's tend to be slighly wider so give better gripetc but the also tand to be lower profile so ride is a liitle more firm, not much though

also in regards to speedo difference really depends on tyre depth, for example if the 14's are like 165/55/14 and the 15's are 195/40/15 the outer diameter wont really change so speedo wount alter.

so really the question is do you mind sacrificing a little bit of dampening for more grip ?

If you change from the tyre sizes you suggest then the quoted bit above would indeed be accurate and it would be fair to say that if changing from 14 to 15 then you'd almost certainly be on a lower profile (but I think I may have said that before somewhere in this thread)however as far as I recall all tyres come in a wide variety of sizes and widths, so 15's don't tend to be wider and don't necessarily give better grip and aren't necessarily a lower profile either.

So the real questions are:
1. Is the offset of the replacement alloys correct for the fitment?
2. If yes, did the manufacturer fit 15" alloys to the car? if yes again, follow their tyre size as it will almost certainly be the right one.

I think Mr-A Is correct in what's he saying in a general case. There is definitly a linear trend between the width of the wheel and the size of the wheel.

For example if ur wheel is 5.5j the max width of tyre you could fit is 185, where if you had 6j then you could fit up to 195 so your tyre choices will widen as well.

I peronally will stick to the smaller wheel possible so you have a quick pick up speed

As for offset it could be corrected with spacers, hubcentic with fiat fitments are pretty cheap. The only thing you can;t correct is the centre bore being smaller than 58.1, beware of that.

So as a general rule -

Offset could be corrected by spacers
PCD 4 x 98 or 4x 100 (use wobbly)
Centre bore if is bigger than 58.1 will be spigot rings if smaller, do not buy the wheel.

thanks every one, i think what your all saying about offsets etc should be fine as they are origional punto alloys. and the tyres are already fitted. sorry if that caused confusion. apreciate the help.
