Technical Fiat tipo 1.4 i.e

Hey! im new to the forum. Just want some advice on a Fiat Tipo which I purchased about 6 months ago. Its done abt 130,000 miles. Recently replaced the alternator. Long story but the car would start and would get you abt 10 mins away and then it would just die. one night when driving the headlights went completely.

Apart from that the Tipo starts every time and i am pleased with it. However, there are a couple of queries. When the car is stationery and the engine turned off at night, the headlights go. Is this a Fiat thing? The light on the instrument panel sometimes disappears and then reappears. its probably nearing the end of its life, but I feel it deserves some kind of care.

Also can anyone help me on where I can get a new front grille for the car? Its a 1995 model.

Hi Max, where are you from? Best place is to try scrap yards, although if you're local enough Fast Fingers is breaking his Tipo a bit. Also think there may have been a tipo grill in the classifieds.

As for the lights, if you turn the engine off the lights should go off too. Saves your battery

If you bought it 6 months ago its doing well, as I guess you didn't part with too much money for the chance to drive it!

Hi Hellcat,

Guy asked for 300 and i gave him 250. It had no mot.The only thing that they pointed out was the emissions were slightly high. Could this be the cat as it is quite old and maybe needs replacing? Have been told to put in a Petrol additive into the tank. this may help I think.
Have spent about 600 on her. In good condition apart from the rear wheel arches are getting slight patches of rust. Everything works and have had no problems with the electrics. Im from the Highlands of Scotland. Inverness to be precise.

Thanx for your info mate. I did notice a grille on ebay but it no longer there. It was pennies aswell. Will try my local scrappy to see what they have.

With regards to your headlights coming on, this is due to rain water leading down through the scuttle panel (where the wiper motor is) and leaking on to the fuse box. It happens to all tipo/tempras nd my alfa! It cause the car to do all sorts of weird things i had my lights on permanatly and my horn kept going on and off randomly! Gives your car character i guess!

That problem with lights, happend to me too, i have a 1.6 94' i changed the battery!!!
I have no problems except it takes 15l/100km, nice ha???? :slayer: :slayer:
