I am reading a lot with conversions of 1.2 Punto engines and so on, and I wonder, even 1.1 Turbo, but why won't u guys convert with 1.1/1.3/1.4/1.5/1.6 128A/159A engines?

Like, 159A engine 1.6 liter 100BHP top carubettor model will give awesome perfromance to the Cinq. Not to mention the 1.4T, from Uno Turbo with correct me if I am wrong 114BHP, 1.3T with 110BHP.

Ofcourse brakes, transmission all done in the proper manner.

Is it the engine weight that makes u afraid of putting these engines 1.4/1.5/1.6 or the space under the bonnet it's the limit (which is no different from the 1.1 to the 1.6  )?

Yea basically it is the weight. One guy has dropped a 1.4 uno turbo engine in, it shifted like stink as my friend ended up buying it (was very very quick, but my 1.2 8v sei with some minor mods could keep up before turbo spooled)

To be fair the 2.0l redtop engine in a sei bay was a tight squeeze but that turbo engine just looked properly shoe horned in, add in to the fact that the expansion tank needed to be filled through the scuttle pannel (y).

It was quick but the turning and handling on it was shocking.

The redtop engine was actually lighter too, and you did retain some turning but due to the output on that engine you were still spinning at 60mph .

Thanks

The 1.4 Turbo from Uno's etc has been done and they do not handle well from what I've heard. Its an old lump, that takes alot of work to fit, new engine mounts need to be made or mounting places need to be fabricated onto the chassis, drive shafts need to be made, gear linkages etc different gear box. Thats even before getting it to run and handle anywhere decent.

The reason the putno or FIRE engine range is popular is because they use the same engine mounts, weight about the same through the range, more widely available, use the same gearbox (no having to faff about with shafts etc), engine management is similar so can be done without changing ECU on some enignes.

And when you think about it, the high boost turbos' on here really struggle to get the power down without an LSD and they have about 130ish bhp if I'm correct so higher output without a diff would really struggle to put the power down.

That's what I think anyway!

EDIT:Kinda beaten to it! Ill leave it anyway bit more info ;)

Thanks

some of those engines mentioned like the UT thats 15+ years old at least

There are much more modern units you can use which equal or better those figures

technology changes hence why they arent used much anymore

there is also the gearbox, mounts etc. My 1.4 16v engine is 100bhp, and is using the cinq gearbox and is sat on the stock cinq mounts. A 1.6 16v engine would weigh more, need custom mounts, new gearbox, custom shafts, custom shifter etc.

They're old, heavy engines that are just not worth the hassle.

Yup, I also think that the 128 SOHC engines are very tall by modern standards, making them a compromise to fit.

Cheers
