I was just wondering what my old grandpa's fiat was. He had lost it many years ago in a car crash with a camaro....
This is all I know about it.
He said it looked like a fiat 124 but the front was shorter for better cornering
He had to get it specially imported to Macao and that there wasn't that many
It was supposed to alot faster than a fiat 124.
It had 4 doors
a 2020cc engine ?!(I think thats what he said)
it had 4 lights on the front 2 on the left and 2 on the right.
It was probably a late 70's or early 80's model
His english isn't that good but he said it was called
abofu? I was thinking abarth o_O...

any ideas? links, picture, name, would be greatly apreciated.

Fiat Abarth 131?

yes that appears to be it. my grandfather says he bought a 4 door version though to hide that it was actually a sports car from the family >_<...According to him at the time he payed $30k compared to a VW beatle that was $4k

thanks for all your help.

I doubt it was a 131AR, there were only 400 of those ever made, then take away the ones that were turned into works and non works rally cars... the number of stradales 9the road going version) was only around 250 car in total ....and they fetch around 60Kus$ these days...

I think it was more likely to be a 131 Racing ... that still had the four round headlights.

However both of these versions came ONLY as a 2 door sedan ... so if it was a four door, then it was just another 131 , probably a SuperBrava / Supermirafiori 2 litre.

Maybe it was a normal 131 can't really be sure. I guess for it to have four doors it would, but it might actually be more closser related to a 124. Also I still have no idea what a abofu is >_<..

heres a pic

That looks like it might be a 124 Special T .... which had the twin cam 1608cc engine , unlike the "regular" 124 sedan /special which had the OHV 1197/1438 engines.

Still a nice car in their day, twin cam engine (around 100hp), four wheel disc brakes, five speed gearbox ... not bad for a late 1960's / early 1970's car.

So it was a four door version of the "sports" model ... the 124BC coupe being the sports car of the range at the time.

abofu is presumably Abarth

But the Chevette didn't win 3 world rally titles ... which is what makes the 131AR quite unique.

BTW my dad owns two real ones, one stradale and one ex works Group4 rally car.

Blue peter badge to you sir.

Red one is the stradale, was a one owner car, has papers and books, was fitted with twin 48IDF's, otherwise standard when purchased.

White one is ex works group 4 car, purchased from Volta, fuel injected, dry sumped 16v, approx 230hp.

hhmmm It has about 250hp..... that seems a little high. But it did beat a the best honda at the time o_O...

picture shows that there are alot of 131's in the background.

are they all in your dads collection?

i have been looking for a 131 racing for quite sometime now but everytime i chanced upon one, it had to be fitted with a freakin japanese engine. that pisses me off coz it totally spoils the image and history of the car.

i m still on the lookout for an original one though. this search has been going on for almost 10 years btw.
