Hi, I've recently bought a oldtimer Ducato (280) 2.5 diesel (no TD) first registered in 06.1990 with a Bürstner 570A camper on top.
So this is build model 06.1982-06.1990.

The engine breather on frontside of the motor is spilling some oil out. Is this normal?
I have already cleaned the seals and still some oil is dropping droom it on top the starter module and on the ground.

Anyone some advise how you solve this issue?

Best regards
Jolyn

When you say cleaned out the seals, do you mean the O rings where it sits in the engine block?
I assume the rubber pipes are all secure with no cracks.
Apart from that check no cracks in the metal filter/breather casing as it is getting a little old now.
The later ones were a plastic box, but they crack and split in time also.
Another thing that can aggravate oil leak problems is if engine piston/bore wear is causing back pressure forcing oil out.
Depending on how bad cleaning that filter/breather/flame trap assembly if blocked can help.

Hi,
I've cleaned the O ring were it sits in the engine block, also the inside of the breather itself and the rubber pipe isn't cracked and secure fixed to the breather.
I will have a look at it soon again.
Thanks for your support.
The motor has had a check up at the Fiat garage and there was no wear to the pistons/bore that causing oil to be forced out.
Thanks for your support

You may be interested in the attached Iveco diagram / description relating to a 2.8jtd. While the general design seems to be identical, I find the Iveco diagram to be easier to read. While that early model discharged fumes into the enviroment, that is no longer the practice, My 2006 Fiat 2.8jtd dischages into the air inlet via a non return valve.

Are you sure that the oil drain pipe back to the sump is not obstructed?

Hi,
For engine model 2.5d. code 8144.67 the breather only has a rubber pipe connected to the air inlet, no drainpipe is foreseen in this model. So the breather needs to be cleaned regularly, to avoid oil build up in the breather.
When looking at the diagram for the 2.8jtd this setup makes more sence, due the oil is recirculated in the system. This is already applied in the carter breather, so I will have a look if there is also engine breather valve available to implement in this system. Such as a PCV valve does. I need to find a returnpoint for the oil which is causing the leak.
Thanks
Br.
