Hey everyone!

So I went out and bought new speakers for my 1999 Fiat Brava 1.2 SX. Low and behold, I am hopelessly lost as to how I am going to change the front 2 speakers in the door. (oval shape, 6" X 8")

You obviously have to take off the entire door panel. But when I unscrewed everything, it still would not get off. It seemed to be stuck at the handle. Am I missing something here? Should installing new speakers really need a mechanic?

Cheers!

The door panel does come off, you just have to be firm with it and keep hunting for hidden screws and clips. If you mean the interior door handle, IIRC that does come off via two allen key screws underneath then possibly something else as well.

Great stuff!! Will start working on it today!

Cheers!

yeah when you remove the handle there's a little black rubber cover over a larger allen bolt. think thats the one you missed

Ok, so the speakers are in, wrong size but I made them fit. The problem is that I am now running 6 speakers in my brava and the radio can't handle it. I want to disconnect the front tweeters in the dash, but I am afraid that I have to take off the dash to do that. Is that the case?

the autoleads adapters are needed to make 5.25" speakers fit, if yours are bigger then you'll have bodged in speakers wihtout an airtight seal so they'll sound crapper than they could.

you can have 6 speakers running on your 4 channel headunit, simply wire the front tweeters in parrallel to the door speakers, i.e. front left tweeter negative joined to front left door negative etc. that will work fine, if you join the wrong wires you may get crackling or speakers not working. in any case the standard wiring on the car already has the parralel setup correct so replacing the door speakers would have caused no problems unless you did it wrong.

your car sohould have been running 6 speakers anyway, the 2 tweeters, the 2 door speakers and the 2 speakers in the rear, either side of the parcel shelf. all you have done is replace the set in the door correct?

the reason it is underperforming is that the new speakers are that much better than the oe ones, and the headunit doesnt have enough oomph to do anything meaningful, and underpowered speaker doesnt sound very good at all.

you can disconnect the tweeters easily enough, just get a flat head screw driver, put a bit of cloth over the end and gently remove the grill on the dash, you can then undo the tweeter, 2 4 mm allen keys iirc and bingo, jobs a goodun, but i doubt very much that this will make any difference at all as they use very little power. . . i still have my oe tweeters connected, along with my front companents and subs and they arent dead yet supprisingly enough.

best bet imo would to be to get a small amp and aftermarket hu, dont have to spend mega money, but will improve the sound no end

No, the car just came with the front 2 speakers. I added 2 speakers in back where the cables were already run. (8") I replaced the door speakers with 2 system JBLs, with their own tweeter crossovers. This means that I am actually now running 8 speakers, with an overabundance of treble. :D

I will just disconnect the front tweeters temporarily, until I get a new hu.

Cheers!

Here's a tip if your radio seems underpowered and distorting. Make sure all speakers are in phase, ie. the + and - cables are where they should be.

Luckily I figured it out qute early so no damadge was done...:(

lmao. i tried to tell you 6 speakers is fine on the headunit, its all in the wiring. i hope your tweeters are wired up again?

Wired up and tweeting away...

Here's another question. If I have a radio that has a seperate sub out, does fiat already have a cable running to the rear, or do I have to do that myself?

there's no cable as standard, but running one through is easy enough. getting a power cable from the battery into the boot for an amp is a bit harder but apart from that its all easy half hour stuff.

Hey guys, I'm having trouble getting the amp power lead through on my beloved brava! Any suggestions on the best place to run it? I cant seem to find a suitable hole, or an area to make one.

cheers,

bruce

Bruce, heres presuming your from the uk, so appologies if you arent

if you get in the passenger footwell and pull the carpet down you will see a rubber bung with wires going through it, that is where the vast majority of brav owners run the power wire, it comes out in the engine bay behind the gearbox. the easiest way to do this is to cut a hole in it carefully thaen poke something through like a caot hanger, it will come through the bulkhead and through the sound deadening with a lil persuasion
hth
and on the phase thing, good call, hadnt occured to me tbh

Hi Andy

I was reading the last post about the Power lead for a amp. i saw that you said about the rubber bung in the footwell.

Is all that the same for a 1.4 sx Bravo?

Cheers

Dan
