I was wondering where the vin is located on a fiat 500, I have an american version and I was told it was a 1959 but he was not sure. I also wanted to know the factory color and interior since it's been painted and there is no interior in the car other than the seat frames. I found one number on the left hand side of the gas tank starting with fiat 110 * something but I google it and found nothing. any help would be great thanks Jeremy

There is no plate to be found. It is stamped into the firrewall steal panal.
Still cant find out any information on this car. I will give you guys the whole number tomorrow. I would go check right now but everyone in the house is asleep.

Thanks again Jeremy

If you have a registration it will have the VIN. However, I do not think you will find much information about your particular car with google. Fiat might have some records.
On our Italian F model the 110 number is the engine model number. There is also a serial number for the chasis and another for the body. There are no coded vin numbers like a modern car. I have a friend with a late fiftys American version. I will ask him if he knows where the ID plate is.

Dave that would be wonderful if you could ask your friend about number locations and if you could ask him how many american verision were made, and what years? I got the whole number fiat 110*122165 The last time the car was registered was 1975 or atleast that was the liscene plate that was on it. I was also wonding if anyone knows if the old plate could tell me alittle about it. I will go to the DMV tomorrow and bring them the plate # county last regestered in and see if the records go back that far. I doubt it but worth a try. I don't have alot of money and I'm also not very familiar with air cooled engines. I was wanting to do a basic rebuild for now, the engine turns over fine. I was hoping too put a new oil pump, a set of rings, bearings and a complete gasket kit. for the short block and for the heads I was going to put in hardened seats and a valve job and a new set of springs since there so cheap. Is there anything I should look for while I've got it torn down? I was going to do the same with the tranny just clean it up real nice and hopefully just install all new gaskets and ruber not much else. Sorry so many question just trying to learn alitte now before tearing into it to far. I was going to put a newer fuel injected motorcycle engine it, because of all the benifits of modern technology and 10 times the power and less weight but I got to thinking it pretty damn cool just the way it is:)

Thanks everyone Jeremy

Hey Jeremy, The car is really simple to work on. Your rebuild sounds good. You won't really know what you have until you open it up. I ended up putting in cylinders/pistons and a crank as well. Unfortunately, I was unable to find an oil pump so for now the old one is back in. I hope to start it tomorrow for the first time after overhaul. I agree on keeping the 110 engine. It is part of the charm.
Ciao,
Dave
