What's with the builder's bum roof? It looks stupid enough on the RCZ - why's fiat copying it or is there an engineering reason I'm missing

at 6'2" i cant fit in the rear of one anyways, but i think its like the cinq/sei.... its got 4 seats but realisticly fiat wanted it with 2 :p

Ah come on Venters, you know I don't claim to have extensive car knowledge - or any car knowledge really :D I just like pretty and fast cars and that roof spoils it for me

First time I saw that shape roof was on a mate's blokes pug and I'm sure you'll all be unsurprised to hear I asked him why his roof looked like an arse from certain angles. Naturally he took the hump although he was a moody bugger anyway but that's another story. Suffice to say friend binned him sharpish

btw, he couldn't tell me if the roof was shaped like that for aerodynamic or aesthetic reasons (it's gotta be the former right?) but I'm sure you lot can ;)

But to accuse Fiat of copying a French car, especially a french car that doesn't make the list is treason.

By the by, the double bubble was to allow for extra headroom for helmets without raising the entire roof and mucking up the aerodynamics. ;)

lol, oh well they can't ban me before Sunday and after that I'm gonna be kinda busy anyway.

Knew you'd know why but your explanation only works for the oldie. What's the explanation for the new cars?

mazda rx7 have double boubles... pug rgz thing too.. and many many more.

as said its to allow room for helmets without raizing the entire roof... still a good aerodynamic feature today but with the extra power from modern cars i dont think its needed all the time...

i think it looks cool anyways... but i like things that arnt common, i hate cars looking the same

dodge viper had a double buble roof aswell

looks nice :) still though, the only fiat concept i've seen the past year or so that made me instantly want one was the abarth roadster

ffs Fiat, stop making concepts and just get this one into production

It looks...okay I guess. Same, in concept at least, to the MINI coupe I suppose though looks slightly better thought out than that monstrosity. Needs to be more coupe-esque though rather than just the standard hatch with a slightly lower roof.

I'm sure some of them had it fitted.... just trying to find pics of it...

Think this is what you're thinking of Andi, as Venters and Steve says it's a bulge moulded into the door for taller drivers needing extra space though didn't have the symmetrical design many other cars have had for the "double bubble" effect. Helped Clarkson when he drove it for one of his vids too...
