Technical Fiat 126 carb advice needed!

Hi,
I have a 65 Fiat 500 w/ a 126 650cc motor. The carb is an endless source of stress. I have rebuilt the carb, but the problem is the choke. It will idle after warming up on half choke, but will die out if choke is released. The car is able to be driven, but is not able to draw full motor potential and speed (pickup is slow and top speed is low). Please advise.

Could you clarify a little bit please - are you saying that your engine will only run with the choke semi closed?

It may be worth checking if the rubber 'o' ring that is on the mixture screw is okay and in one piece. Its the screw on the carb that faces you as you look in the engine bay nearest to the valve cover. If that rubber o ring is split or not there it can cause similar sounding problems to what you say. Give it a go - good luck !!
