As always, you're a veritable wealth of knowledge Tom.

Can i pick your brains on a few more things?

I've been reading up about Brakes. Recommendations (perhaps even yours) being that fluids are changed at least every year. I suspect after investigation of service records courtesy of garage from which previous owner bought car, that mine might not have been changed since Feb 02 when it had its 24K service (I only hope it was done then!) There was an endless debate about this I know, but I'm going with 'Glycol'(if I've spelt it right) based DoT5.1, after having tried to extrapolate from the posts what is not just conjecture. Since I don't know what has been used before, might I just as well get stainless braded hoses fitted whilst getting the system flushed? I think actually you answered this one for me already, saying the brakes are servo'd, but can't hurt to replace em.

Maybe flushin the system thru n replacing fluid will produce observable improvement in brakes, but had been tempted by Red Dot 6 groove disks drilled too (I know they're not cheap but mate can get discount). In all honesty, will I look a ponse for choosing drilled, cos I've never even seen another car with drilled disks on?

Oh, and fed up now of reading through unrelated posts in search of illusive info on what the bloody hell is causing those annoying rust coloured spots on the interior on the cabin (yes, that old one!). I remember seeing some posts about this, but can't find em now. Please enlighten me.

Can't help with the rest, but i would stay away from drilled disks as they have a tendancy to break under pressure...

I didn't think red dot made drilled discs, keep away from drilled discs anyway as cheap ones can crack. They are not the same as the VERY costly steel alloy discs used on race cars, ferraris, porkers etc..

I'd also not use 5.1 on a road car, its a race spec fluid with a very high dry boiling point but it suffers very badly when 'wet', worse than dot 4. Unless you plan to change it every 6 months dot 4 will give better results. Really your brake temps will never get high enough to justify 5.1 anyway.

PTFE overbraided hoses are a good plan, you won't notice a great deal of pedal feel difference but they help overall. I'm a fan of un-servo'd cars with rock hard brake pedals ;) My MGB will lift its rear wheels off the ground under heavy braking and that has no servo.

I'll pick up the serious one eh? ;)

If by the annoying spots on the interior of the cabin you mean on the roof liner - its the glue that keeps it stuck on. If you or a previous owner have allowed the cabin to get too hot in the sun for long periods - the glue begins to react and leaches through the liner. Short of replacing the whole thing and re-sticking with clear glue, there is nothing you can do.

Someone suggested on this forum that for the spots try one of these bathroom mildew cleaners. They are bleach based so dont allow any to fall onto your dash and the smell lingers for a few days. They do work quite well though. It took a few shots of it to do justice on mine but there is a marked improvement.

Cheers guys

Supports my efforts to tint my windows then, if mere heat is the cause of these bloomin blobs
