Hi Ben/all

Chris here...

Just noticed that the boot light is on constantly and I'm a little worried that it'll kill the battery. Just wondering if it's wired up that way for the neons or something as I noticed that a wire another wire is linked up to it, and if it'll infact kill the battery.

I press the button by the connectors but nothing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Having the boot light constantly on will eventually drain the battery...

Leave the wires connected, but take the bulb out and the problem should be sorted..

Just make sure everything else still works afterwards though..

I don't think there's an aftermarket alarm. I'd rather try and sort it and keep the bulb in to be honest.

By ?I press the button by the connectors but nothing.? you mean the small metal pin that is on the down part of the boot ?

If so, take that whole line out and check the connectors under it.

Yeah, at the bottom there are 4 (I think) connectors with a button that presses down to turn the light off I believe. Pressing that doesn't do anything.

I'll have a look at it tonight, providing the weather is ok.

As I remember left of the far left one should be a small metal pin sticking out. When pressed in it should turn off the boot light. Normaly it is pressed by a plastic square shaped bit that is on the boot lid. Now if you press the pin with hand and the light goes out, the plasic on the boot lid isnt pressing the pin like it should - lover the boot lid by winding in the rubbers on the boot lid sides. If it dosent go out when you press it by hand - the switch is malfunctioning - you will have to take it out

I have not closed my boot properly on 2 occasions and both times it flattened my battery overnight. Cause maybe a constant earth

two fix options

first the proper one is to replace the switch by going to a scrappy and getting one out another car

or second which is more simple! remove the bulb ;)

@ Sven where is this switch for the boot light on/off cant find it on my mk2, have tested wiring and fuses and other than switch all is well but not functioning. And would like to get it fixed asap/
