@Sven

No no serial number B837 and 0.30 ohms

Do you think this part it blown? Should i get it replaced before diagnostics etc? Anyway i can check?

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Well in the last pic it looks like its blovn, but the pic is blurry.
Take a universal meeter, and measure the ohms - it should be like it sais 0.30.

Will check you the B837 part in eper tomorrow

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

The radiator fan and assembly is commonrail with Fiat/Alfa 145/156/Bravo etc etc so hopefull you'll get an answer somewhere.

Crossed wires - no pun intended.

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Ok on closer inspection the thing that looks like a small resistor is only attached at one side. As shown in my wonderfull drawing! No laughing!

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Well if its soldered only on one side - its not right

Does it look like it burned out or simmilar ???
+ solder it back on if you can and try if the fan springs then.

and can you say where exactly did you pull that out and if it has a cap on it self

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Where it's broken wasnt where it was soldered onto, is part of the base that seems broken, will clean it up and see if i could solder it. Although never soldered anything before - but have the tools!

The fan is blue the radiator grey and the rheostat thing red. looking from drivers seat. Is attached to the actual plastic fan mounting and is srewed on to it, so that it sits held just off the radiator.

As for looking friend etc, it looks badly corroded inplaces the wee resistor has a dark sheith so hard to tell if its burn out.

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Hi, i had the same problem with my HGT. It was that unit all corroded on one side and the resistor wasn't connected so i soldered it. Its a pain in the arse trying to solder as it doesn't bond very well, but when it does you should be ok. Mine still works and i soldered it about 6 months ago.
Hope this helps.

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Thanks ash, is good to know someone's had the same problem. If someone could see the EPC for me to get the part no that'd be fab as mine's isnt working just now.

In fact have just noticed that the large cylindrical thing isnt attached on one side either! As it can move approx 2mm so must not be making good contact! ARgghh!

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Ok well got the wee one soldered on ok, but the big one came off both posts when trying to sqeeze hot solder into the joins, so i'll need to get a new one!

So please please can someone get me the part number, so i can point the local mupets in the right direction...

Thanks

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

On my disk the part number is- 51736774. But the disk is afew years old. This is the replacement part, the original number is- 7782831. Its just called a resister for the fan and fan drive. Make sure you tell them its got aircon as the none aircon doesn't have them, and fiat parts people aren't the cleverest :)

Hope this helps.
Oh and its about £15-20.

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

Looking at some diagrams, that looks like a "engine cooling fan limiting resistor" and the wirest to it should be "blue and blue/black"

Re: Fan relay on Bravo and fan problems. WITH NEW INFO

I'd need to double check but think it was blue and brown.

Checked was blue and brown!

Woooooohooooooo!

Ok so the problem is now fixed, fan is coming on when the engine is going to overheat and switching off again, thus keeping it at the nice halfway temperature! Is also coming on after when key is at the click before ignition, when the engine is not on but is still hot, and going off again etc!

I'm so pleased! :D :D

And i wouldnt have been able to do it without you guys help! I worked my way through the problem and found and fixed the problems until it was fully working. :)

So a big thanks to; Sven and all you others!

The part no for the resistor was 51736774 and was £17.03

So all in i replaced 1 relay (still dont know what the other one does) and the fan resistor. Total cost £28

Cost if fiat did it............. at least £100, and possibly even more as may have needed multiple trips to the computer!
