Fading 'Theatre Style' Dials

Did anyone see Fifth Gear last week with the VW Toaureg (sic). The dials had an amazing fade in / out effect when lighting up and I was wondering how easy it would be to modify the Bravo dials to do the same. A similar satisfying effect like the dimming interior light.

There is a thread about this earlier on,... i believe that it is for a fading (in and out) interior light. Would this be able to be adapted for the console?
