I am considering buying a 2010 Eleganza to replace my current 2003 115JTD but am concerned by the number I have seen for sale for looooong periods of time on eBay and Autotrader and sitting at very low sums of money.

Other than just liking the idea of a newer car there is nothing wrong with my current one so may be shooting myself in the foot spending £4K on the 2010 model only to either get £500 (or less) for mine or not being able to sell it and having to live with the DPF threat on the new shape.

Just keen to know if anyone else has encountered this same dilemma.

if it were myself then i'd stick to what i know especially if there wasn't anything seriously wrong with the one i've got , better the devil you know , because i've done it before some years ago with a punto , i already had one and there was nothing wrong with it but i decided to buy another just because it was newer and at that time the 'new' shape and it turned out to be a pig in a poke , what a mistake that was , valuable lesson learned on my part , you can't polish a turd :D

Well I am a believer in fate and what is meant to be will be and the one I was keen on has gone. Clearly I am meant to keep this, so thanks doggybob for the voice of reason.

Further to what doggybob said:

I have just sold my beloved 03 JTD 115SX, and with the exception of needing a cambelt (soonish), there was nothing wrong with it. Over the last 12 months it has taken me to: Amsterdam (twice), Munich (3) Lisbon (1), Andorra (1) not to mention the mileage in UK and averaging 48mpg to boot. Total miles this last year approx 30k. I serviced it every 4 weeks - New oil and filter, diesel filter etc. It has NEVER let me down.

Reason for sale?

Wifey constantly commenting about how OLD it looks - after SHE scraped the gate on the day her Nissan was in for service (it was under warranty so I don't do it myself) :bang:
OK, so the paint looked a bit dullish but that was it's only minus point.

This 04 115 ELX JTD was bought last year as a project and has been waiting for the old bug to die before being sorted out. :D The old bug ain't dead and don't look like it's about to be, anytime soon, (y) so the new owner has a bargain. I sold it for a fair price considering it's age and general looks, mechanically, it's bullet proof.
I can only hope that the 'new' Blue, will be half as good - it's got some BIG boots to fill. :)
George.
BY the way: this is Bug number 5 - they get into the blood somehow. There is nothing like em LOL.

I agree with you on the addictive nature of these cars. I posted awhile back that I had been looking at alternatives but never really found any that matched up. The Honda FRV is a very poor and distance copy. Sure it looks sexier BUT the middle seats, both front and back are definitely narrower. Also all round visibility is infantile in comparison. The hand brake is just plain silly. Now being a Honda I have no doubt over their reliability but between 2004 and 2006 they too had major DMF/Clutch issues on the diesels. I then looked at various other medium sized MPV's (e.g. Zafira's) and all were wanting. As such when I do eventually part ways with this one it will be for a lower (sub 60K) mileage one.

Now don't get me wrong there are better MPV's just not in this class. My Grand Voyager was significantly better and immensely more reliable. It's replacement, a 54 plate Alhambra is also a fantastic car that carries 7 adults with ease and in full comfort BUT both of these are much bigger than the Multi and that is the point for it's size and price it has no equal.

If another 09/10 plate one comes along in my mileage range I will buy it, otherwise ol'ugly will just keep going.
