Bought car 6 weeks ago.. its X plate (1999).. had no major problems until this afternoon was sitting at a traffic lights went to go and car started making horrid noise and then when moving off realised something was trailing on the ground! Thankfully partner was with me and was able to tell me what it was.. there was a garage on that road so took it right there and they it off and said it was ok to drive just now and to go back tomorrow morning and they will fix it... the mechanic said it is 3 parts on the exhaust that is needing fixed.. they have quoted me £175 to fix it.. does this sound fair? I have only just passed my test 5 weeks ago and this is the 1st time dealthing with anything like this

Exhausts do tend to rust, 6 years is a good lifespan for each section i would say.

I assume that the quote is for the rear silencer and center silencer. Not sure what the 3rd part is.

The price seems fair but make sure you have someone with you to verify that all the parts have been replaced as quoted.

Welcome :smt001

Depends on which parts have gone to be honest, but £175 isn't OTT by any means if we're talking more than one silencer. If it's one silencer and mounting gaskets and mounts it's a wee bit on the steep side

Which engine does your Marea have :?:

Cat/Downpipe?

I cant remember which car - maybe the Micra - had three sections of pipe. Might be a similar set up on the marea?

Maybe Dave or Stew can advise?
